Rain or Shine Slow Ride for AD 51
LARCEE & the Elysian Valley Slow Ride are run by networks of individuals volunteering to make positive change for our communities. (We are NOT a non-profit charity restricted from partisan political advocacy.)
By simply taking to the LA River Greenway shared path as a group, we make the space safer for all users young and old, not merely elite cyclists. As part of our ongoing commitment to bring people together for the good of our neighborhoods, we dedicate the first Slow Ride of 2019 to the upcoming Assembly District 51 United Progressive candidates, two of whom are founding members of LARCEE.
On January 12, we will gather at Spoke Bicycle Café, ride south along the path to Egret Park, then loop back up to Spoke where we will meet up with neighbors and community members to learn about the imminent AD 51 Delegate caucus election.
Every two years, California Democrats elect 14 people from each of the 80 districts in the state to be our communities’ voice in the state party. The winners become delegates to the State Central Committee. We gain a voice in endorsements and resolutions. We help set the course of the party.
In the months ahead, building on the blue tide of Democratic participation in 2018, we face the regular elections for legislature and Congress and a special ballot at the party convention for a new chair of the state party. We need to have the voices of diverse, progressive, local leaders from our 51st Assembly District at the table. This only happens if we come out to vote.
Meet candidates from your community, learn what a delegate does, why we need progressive values and leadership in the Democratic party, and how to vote in this upcoming local election.
